My Story

Mid last year I noticed that my heart was hurting the but the pain continued even after my regular exercise sessions.

I went to the doctor and explained what I felt, after some tests and scans, they found that I my aorta valve was not there, I was born without it so my heart was working even harder than usual.

The only way to sort this out was to have a new valve put in, so early this year I had my operation at the Spire in Southampton.

After a 4 hour operation I had a new metal valve put in.
Within a few days I was up and walking around and now after 8 weeks I’m back at work, taking it easy but doing what I love, my job is in personal fitness, I’m a healthy 39 year old who has exercised all my life so to have this operation was scary not just for me but for my family, but I can say I’m back and when I tell people about it, they say that they’ve experienced the same, it’s really common in men of all ages.

GB Athlete Roger Black has inspired me to share my story as he has had the same issues as me.

British Heart foundation continue their good work to help all those who have issues with their heart.

My ask is that if you have the slightest concern with your heart please get it checked out.
